Stuart Dallas’ 89th minute deflected strike rescued a point for Leeds United against Preston North End at Elland Road.

Leeds started brightly, Jack Harrison sent Ezgjan Alioski down the left wing and his pass found Patrick Bamford in the Preston box, with his strike deflecting wide.

Brad Potts had Preston’s first opportunity when Kiko Casilla came out a long way to make a tackle, before the ball fell to the North End forward, but like Bamford, he saw his effort deflect wide.

Tom Barkhuizen then stole possession deep into the Leeds half, before testing Casilla with a good low effort.

The away team continued to create chances, Sean Maguire teed up Alan Browne to strike, with his attempt going just wide.

David Nugent went close with a diving header before Preston took the lead.  The visitors caught Leeds on a counter attack and Barkhuizen played Browne through one-on-one with Casilla and he slotted home.

Brad Potts almost doubled the lead for Preston with a long range strike, with his effort going narrowly off target.

At the other end Leeds broke forward with Alioski dragging a shot just off target as the Whites looked to get back into the game.

Harrison then teed up Luke Ayling who fired a first time effort which went just over the crossbar.

Ayling then set up Alioski with a header back across goal which the Macedonia international headed, with his effort just too high.

Liam Cooper saw a strike blocked following a Kalvin Phillips free kick, as the Whites went in behind at the break.

Half time: Leeds United 0-1 Preston North End

Preston started brightly after the break, with Maguire striking wide under pressure from Ben White and Cooper.

Dallas was denied by a good save from Declan Rudd following some neat build up play, before striking wide from a set-piece from distance.

Maguire fired wide following a neat through ball, but the forward was always going away from goal, before Jack Harrison had an effort blocked at a Leeds corner.

Eddie Nketiah replaced Bamford in the 64th minute and his first impact was to send Helder Costa into the box and his cross just missed the head of Harrison, before Alioski blazed over with the goal gaping.

Nketiah was then denied by an excellent save by Rudd at a Leeds corner, with the Preston goalkeeper somehow tipping his header around the post.

With 15 minutes remaining, Leeds were so close to levelling the scores, Alioski rifled a strike from the edge of the box which hit the post.

Harrison then drove in a low cross which Rudd could only flap into the box and Preston scrambled clear, before Rudd was again called upon this time denying Alioski from close range.

With a minute of regular time left, Leeds got back level, when Dallas’ 25 yard strike took a deflection and found its way into the top corner, erupting the Elland Road crowd.

In the six minutes of added time, Leeds had a good chance to win it.  Ayling saw a shot blocked as did Harrison with an acrobatic effort and the ball then dropped to Costa who struck just wide.
