Eddie Nketiah’s header with three minutes of normal time remaining secured Leeds United a point against a Preston North End side unbeaten at home in the Sky Bet Championship.

Leeds had the first chance of the game inside four minutes after Helder Costa won Leeds a corner.  Kalvin Phillips delivered, but Patrick Bamford could only head wide from 12 yards.

Two minutes later, Kiko Casilla had to be on full alert to stop David Nugent from pouncing onto a back pass from Gaetano Berardi.

Bamford again went close at the other end soon after, when well placed in the area, striking into the side netting after being laid off by Stuart Dallas.

The Whites again went close from a Phillips corner in the 22nd minute, Bamford this time met the cross with a bullet header, but was unable to keep it down.

Leeds continued to win plenty of set-pieces, this time Helder Costa fired a volley over following a Phillips corner.

The Whites then produced some fine build up play which led to another chance.  Mateusz Klich found Jack Harrison in the Preston box and he laid the ball off to Ezgjan Alioski who hit a first time strike, with his attempt going a yard wide of the post, as the two teams went in level at the break.

Half time: Preston North End 0-0 Leeds United

Leeds won an early corner in the second half and the ball was played out low to Alioski on the edge of the box, he saw his first effort well blocked, before firing wide with the rebound.

Chances were few and far between until the 67th minute, first Dallas saw a strike deflect into the arms of Declan Rudd, before Klich reached the byline after being played forwards by Costa, but Bamford was unable to convert the cut-back.

Alioski had an effort well blocked as Leeds broke up the pitch, but it was the home side who took the lead in the 75th minute.  Preston caught Leeds on the counter attack and substitute Sean Maguire broke down the right, with his low cross converted by Barkhuizen from close range.

Leeds looked to hit back immediately, with Dallas firing just over from 25 yards.

Maguire again broke into the Leeds area from the right, forcing Casilla into a good save from a narrow angle and from the resulting corner Barkhuizen could only head over when well placed.

Leeds pulled level in the 87th minute, following a Phillips free kick and Tyler Roberts blocked shot, the ball was crossed to the back post and Nketiah superbly headed a looping effort into the back of the net.

In stoppage time Maguire nearly stole the points for Preston with a near-post header following a free kick, before at the death, substitute Tyler Roberts saw a penalty appeal turned down as the Whites had to settle for a point.
