New arrival, goalkeeper Illan Meslier spoke to leedsunited.com following his arrival from Ligue 2 side Lorient.

The 19-year-old made 30 appearances for the French side during the 2018/19 campaign in all competitions, recording 11 clean sheets.

Meslier admitted he can’t wait for the new challenge with the Whites and that Marcelo Bielsa had a big influence in his decision to join the club.

“I’m extremely happy to be joining a big club like Leeds United with a big history, so it’s a pleasure for me to come and join the club, to learn English football and discover a new club,” said Meslier.

“I’m looking forward to playing English football, I’m a modern type of goalkeeper and I like to play with my feet.

“I want to discover what this club is about, discover the style of the current squad and how this squad plays football.

 “Marcelo Bielsa is a huge name obviously, I knew of him when he was working at Marseille and his style of play is very, very strong.”
