Captain on pre-season.

Leeds United skipper Liam Cooper spoke to LUTV about the pre-season campaign so far.

The Whites have nearly completed two full weeks of training ahead of the 2019/20 season, with the first pre-season matches to take place next week.

Cooper spoke about what it has been like at Thorp Arch and hopes the team efforts now are rewarded with a similar start to the last campaign.

“Pre-season has been hard, the boys have come back in good shape though and stuck to their individual programmes in the off season,” said Cooper.

“We all know it is tough mentally and physically, but the lads at this club all keep each other going and drag each other through it and that is the mentality we have.

“Pre-season is not about coming back unfit to get fit now, you have to come back at a reasonable level of fitness to peak for the first game of the season.

“All of the lads really buy into it, we saw the results we got from it last season and the amount of goals we scored late in games, this is where we have to put it in and everyone is.

“Over the last two or three years we have built a really positive group and all of the new signings that have come in have been taken straight in by the group and that is the type of group we are.

“The target will always be to get promoted, we came up short last year and we have to use that as motivation and we will have a right good go again.”
