Marcelo Bielsa: Five key press conference points

Five key quotes ahead of Wigan Athletic.

Following Marcelo Bielsa's press conference ahead of Good Friday's clash with Wigan Athletic, we look at five key points made by the Leeds United head coach.

Leeds

On how crucial the games over Easter weekend will be...

It’s a game that we are going to play until the end of the season and will be key and we are thinking about the mathematical possibilities.  In the next two games there are going to be differences that can be decisive for the league.”

On Liam Cooper...

“I cannot say that he is one hundred per cent out, but I cannot say he has a lot of chances either. It's difficult to create a conclusion of this kind of situation because the information I give has to be accurate. In this case, it’s not easy to have precision in the answer.”

On keeping calm among the excitement...

“It's true that it’s difficult to do this, I have to say with a lot of precision. When the atmosphere close to you is excited it’s more difficult to be calm inside yourself.. You need to have a link with amateur spirit, because then you have a link with the fans and at the same time there are no footballers who are not fans or don't have this feeling. Professionals need to have balance and calm.”

On the support...

“I realise how important the fans are in our actions. Sometimes, you cannot say, but it’s important for them to help one of our difficult moments in a game pass. It’s important to communicate what they are giving to us and we need their support. A lot of top coaches are asking this of the supporters. It’s something very typical. Usually, the players demand the support more. A lot of coaches are demanding the support of the fans too. The Leeds fans have a high influence in the possibilities that we have as a team.”

On if Leeds can still win the Championship title...

Our objective is to be focused for the three points that we play for in each game. After every game we have to adapt to the new reality that is the table.”
