10 FACTS: JACK HARRISON

We find out more about our new winger Jack Harrison...

1. Jack David Harrison was born on the 20th November 1996, in Stoke-on-Trent. Three days later, Leeds United defeated Southampton 2-0 at The Dell, thanks to goals from Gary Kelly and Lee Sharpe.

2. In 2003, after a brief spell at Liverpool’s Academy, Jack joined Manchester United, playing alongside the likes of Marcus Rashford, James Wilson and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.

3. At the age of 14, Jack and his family made the bold step to leave England, heading to the United States on a scholarship with Berkshire School. During his time with the school, he led them to three-straight NEPSAC Class A Championships, whilst also winning the Gatorade Boys Soccer Player of the Year twice.

4. After his time at Berkshire School, Harrison spent a year at ACC side Wake Forest, where he became the first player to win the league’s Offensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year awards. During his year with the club, he racked up 8 goals, and made 11 assists, and was named the Gatorade National Player of the Year.

5. In 2016, Jack was first pick overall in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, with Patrick Vieira’s New York City trading allocation money and their fourth pick to Chicago Fire, in order to bring Harrison in.

6. Jack made his professional debut as a 57th minute substitute for Thomas McNamara against New York Red Bulls. Playing alongside Andrea Pirlo and David Villa, Harrison would only have to wait until his third game, against Real Salt Lake, before getting his first professional goal for New York City. Making a total of 24 appearances, and scoring 3 goals, Jack was nominated for the MLS’ Rookie of the Year and Goal of the Year awards.

7. After more match-winning performances in 2017, and Andrea Pirlo saying “He is very young, he’s fast and he is capable of playing in Europe. He’s a good player.”; Jack signed for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on 30th January 2018.

8. On 1st October 2017, Harrison was called upto the England U21s squad for the first time, making his international debut against Scotland.

9. After signing for City, Harrison was immediately loaned out to Championship side Middlesbrough for the latter half of the season. Jack made his debut against Cardiff, when he replaced former Leeds United player Jonny Howson in the 83rd minute.

10. During the 2018 summer, Harrison made his first appearances for Manchester City, playing against Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich. 24 hours after defeating Bayern 3-2 in Miami , Jack Harrison flew back to England and signed for Leeds United on a season-long loan.
