KEMAR ROOFE: WE HAVE TO PROVE OURSELVES

Forward on Aston Villa.

Leeds United forward Kemar Roofe spoke to the press ahead of Friday’s Sky Bet Championship fixture against Aston Villa.

Roofe has recently returned from injury, after spending a time on the sidelines, missing the whole of March.

The forward admitted it has been a difficult period, but wants to end the campaign as positively as possible.

“I’ve had five weeks out and it has been frustrating not to be able to help the team,” said Roofe.

“It was good to get 70 minutes on Tuesday against Preston and hopefully I can go again against Aston Villa.

“We should be doing better than we are, we wanted promotion this season and we have failed.

“We know we can’t get in the Play-Offs now, but we want to end the season on a high and at the end of the day we have to prove ourselves for next season as well.

“Every game we try to win, we are not going into games to make the numbers up, when we lose we are really hurting.

“I really like the gaffer, he has come in, been honest with all of us and is keeping the game simple, because it can get very complicated.

“We are not only disappointed for him, but for ourselves as well, because at the end of the day it is our names involved as well and it is not him kicking the ball on the pitch, we have to up our game.

“It will be good next season when he gets the players he wants, has his own pre-season and we can work on it.

“We are just in a bad patch at the moment, but we want to finish the season on a positive and then we can concentrate on next season.”
