KEMAR ROOFE: IT WAS A VERY PROUD MOMENT

Roofe pleased to get off the mark.

Leeds United attacker Kemar Roofe was delighted to get his goal-scoring account started with Saturday’s opener against Aston Villa on Saturday.

The summer signing from Oxford United headed home Souleymane Doukara’s cross in the 68th minute to help Leeds secure victory and move up to fourth spot in the Championship.

After breaking his duck, Roofe is now hoping to get on the score-sheet on a regular basis.

He said: “It is a massive relief and a very proud moment as well, but getting the result was the main thing.

“Doukara cut inside and put a great ball in, I was just in the right place at the right time and I just wanted to get my head on it, it was like slow motion.

“It was a massive celebration when I scored, but we always celebrate every goal, it shows the passion we have playing in this team and the success we all want.

The forward admitted that having the midweek game away at Liverpool on Tuesday made the last seven days difficult, but was pleased to bounce back with victory.

“It has been a tough week for us, we’ve all played a lot of minutes in a short time.

“It wasn’t our best performance in the first half, we went in and re-grouped and were given a few pointers of how to improve.

“The main thing was though, despite not playing our best, we still managed to get the result.

“The crowd at Elland Road was the loudest it has been all year, which was also massive for us.

“Everyone is getting behind us, as a team and squad we have the belief, so hopefully it will continue to be a good season.

“We don’t focus on the table too much, if we continue to get the performances and the results, the league table will look after itself.”
