Garry Monk is looking for an instant response from his players as the team look to bounce back from defeat with the three points against Wigan Athletic at Elland Road on Tuesday night. 

Leeds went down 1-0 at Derby at the weekend with Monk telling LUTV the players will be ready to put on a performance in front of the home fans.

 “We are obviously frustrated with the result but looking back at the game we had the chances to take something from it. Our performance deserved something from the game but we didn’t so we have to use that disappointment for Tuesday night. 

 “As it is in the Championship, there’s a quick turnover. You have to focus on the positives of what we have we have been doing and put them into the Wigan game. 

There are no fresh injury concerns within the squad but Stuart Dallas has been dealt a blow, after a scan on his calf injury has revealed he’ll be out for the next two weeks. 

“We’re all disappointed, especially for the player himself. So with him and Liam Bridcutt out it’s two important, experienced players we’re missing but it is what it is and we have to overcome and adapt to these situations.

“It presents an opportunity for other players to come in and prove themselves. The players are competing well in training and there are difficult decisions to make. I’ll pick the team I feel can do the best and pick up the three points.”

The Whites have won their last four games at Elland Road after failing to win the opening the three. Monk says he can feel the tide turning on home soil.

“Result dictate that feeling but the fans and players are understanding. I talked earlier in the season about that apprehension with these young players playing for a big club in front of an expectant crowd and they had to overcome that. The players are doing that now, they are enjoying the football at Elland Road. 

“They feel the real support of the fans, really good atmospheres and the best part is when the team have had to dig in, the crowd are right with them. That’s massively important, I know quite a few occasions where that has really helped.

"The lads have talked about it afterwards, that feeling of the crowd with them and putting the fear into the opposition. The crowd see the team giving 100%, and how we are trying to play and improve every game. We are fighting at Elland Road all together and that’s very important for us going forward.”

 Wigan Athletic arrive in West Yorkshire 22nd in the Championship with one win from their last five games but they have only suffered one defeat. The United boss is wary of the threat they will pose.

“They are a very good footballing team, I’m quite surprised they are where they in the league with the football they have been playing. We have to be very mindful of their strengths but really it’s about us improving, getting better and we’re confident in our way of football. With the crowd behind us we’ll look to impose ourselves on the opposition and if we can do that we will give a good account of ourselves and get the three points we all want.”
