CARDIFF: UNITED HOPEFUL ON BRIDCUTT

Garry Monk provides the latest team news ahead of Saturday's clash...

United boss Garry Monk is hopeful of having captain Liam Bridcutt available for Saturday’s trip to Cardiff City, with the midfielder set to be assessed on Friday following an injury sustained in the midweek victory over Blackburn Rovers.

Bridcutt was forced off during the early stages of the second half in Tuesday’s 2-1 win at Elland Road but is expected to return to training at Thorp Arch on Friday as Monk’s side prepare to travel to South Wales.

“It’s no serious injury, just a bit of swelling on top of the foot,” Monk said.

“We're just giving him as much time as possible to recover. He didn’t train today but we only had half the group training today.

“But we are fully expecting to have the group training tomorrow and with Liam we will obviously give him as much time as possible.

“We are very hopeful. We just have to give him until training tomorrow and we are very, very hopeful which will be good.”

Bridcutt is United’s only fresh injury concern against the Bluebirds, with Kemar Roofe fully recovered after missing the Blackburn clash. Gaetano Berardi, however, remains absent but is due to return to training next week.

“From Tuesday night, we all came through - a few bumps and bruises but nothing untoward, so that’s good," he said.

“We should have a fully fit squad apart from Berardi who is edging closer again.

“He should be back in with us next week and then we have a fully fit squad.

“Kemar trained today so hopefully it will be a fully fit squad apart from Berardi.”
