It took the then sizeable sum of £350,000 to prize England regular Greenhoff away from Manchester United, but Jimmy Adamson was determined to get his man.  Ironically Greenoff, whose older brother Jimmy also played for both clubs, won just one more cap while at Elland Road to add to the 17 he had won before his move.  Greenhoff was a player respected highly by both Adamson and his successor Allan Clarke, being versatile enough to play at either full-back or midfield.  But he was plagued by injuries and so in December 1983, after a successful spell on loan at the club, Greenhoff signed for Rochdale — then managed by his brother Jimmy.  He had played his last Leeds game in March 1982.

Strange but true: Brian was a ball-boy at the 1968 Leeds-Arsenal League Cup final where he watched Jimmy receive a winners medal for Leeds.
