Ladies Gearing Up For A Better Start

Leeds United Ladies have been working hard in pre season and will be looking to improve on their last season's disappointing start to the season, where they didn't win any of their first four league games.

Right: Natalie Haigh is just one of a number of youngsters to come through this season.

New fitness coach Chris Wilburn has been brought in and has been working the players harder than ever before.  It has seen Leeds win all three of the pre season games so far, the most recent on Sunday when they beat Liverpool 2-0 in a game that the result didn't really reflect the dominance of the Leeds side that day. Karen Walker and Cath Davies were scorers that day.

Manager Julie Chipchase has brought a few of the younger players through this pre season, and said:" I have been really pleased with the way pre season has gone, we have signed three of new players to strengthen the squad and have also brought through youngsters Natalie Haigh, Sophie Walton, Sophie Hargreaves and Jess Clarke into the first team squad training.

"The two Sophie's are still under 16 players but all four players have a lot of ability and have a rreal chance of being involved with the first team squad this season.

"I have always said Leeds has some of the best youngsters in the country and now we are starting to see a few coming through, although we must be careful not to push them too hard or too soon. I hope a few of the reserve players will be pushing the first team for their places too.We don't have an easy start to the season but I feel we are better prepared for this season than we were last season, the girls look sharp and have worked so hard."

Leeds have two more pre season games they travel to Sunderland on Sunday and then play their last pre season game against Sheffield Wednesday at Garforth Town on Thursday 11th August, 7.30pm KO.

Admission will be FREE for the Sheffield Wednesday last pre season game.

Leeds kick off their League campaign three days later at home to Fulham at Garforth Town on Sunday 14th August with a 2.00pm Kick off.

Leeds will then face League and FA Cup winners Arsenal away on Sunday 21st August and then followed by a home game against FA Cup finalists Everton a week later on Sunday 28th August.
