Willy Gnonto: These Are The Games I’ve Dreamed Of

Leeds forward previews Sunday's final

The Whites face off against Southampton on Sunday for the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Final and Willy Gnonto says he is ready for the task at hand.

The Italian started both legs of the play-offs against Norwich and has 12 goal contributions so far this season and will be looking for more on the weekend.

Looking ahead to the final, Gnonto spoke with the club as he prepares for the first final of his career.

What are your thoughts going into the game?

“I’m sure it’s going to be an incredible game. I think both sides are to have lots of fans behind them so I actually can’t wait to play. I’m thinking it’s going to be a game to enjoy, hopefully we’ll win as well.”

How important will the fans be on Sunday?

“Really important. It’s probably the first time I find myself in this type of situation with half fans on each side of the stadium.

“I feel our fans are going to be very loud. We need them on Sunday and I know they are going to be ready to help us achieve our goal.”

How excited are you to be in your first final?

“I’m really excited, these are the type of games that I dreamed of when I was younger so having the chance to play in it so young is incredible and I can’t wait.”

How’d you feel your season has gone?

“There’s been ups and downs but I’m happy that I had the luck to turn it around. Now I’m in a good position personally and with the team now we all just want the best reward.”

What’s been your favourite moment of the season?

“There have been many, probably Bristol [City] away, but then I think Leicester at home, Ipswich at home, there have been many incredible moments and hopefully one more coming on Sunday.”

What did you make of the fans on Thursday night?

“Incredible, incredible, I’ve never seen anything like this. I was really amazed even when I was playing and watching back the videos it was even better. Hopefully Sunday is going to be even better than this.”

What are you expecting from Southampton?

“It’s going to be a tough game. They have a really good team, they play well, but so do we. I’m not scared or anything I just know it’s going to be a good football game.

“I know that we have the quality to do it and that we are ready to do it.”
