Archie Gray: Leeds Means Everything To Me

Archie Gray: Leeds Means Everything To Me

Leeds United starboy looks ahead to Sunday's final

Leeds United face off against Southampton on Sunday in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Final and 18-year-old Archie Gray has had a break-out season to remember.

Since making his debut against Cardiff on the opening day of the season, he has been an integral part of Daniel Farke’s side and will be in contention to make his 52nd appearance of the season on the weekend.

Looking towards the final, Gray spoke exclusively with the club about the occasion and what it means for his boyhood club.

How excited are you to be playing at Wembley on Sunday?

“I can't really describe how excited I am but hopefully we can just get a good result. We’ll enjoy it with the fans and we’ll be working hard this week to get the best result we can.”

How good is it going to be to walk out with your boyhood club at Wembley?

“Indescribable. I’ve followed Leeds since I was born, pretty much and it obviously means everything to me. I’m walking out there as a fan and as a player as well so it will mean everything to me.

“Obviously, I’ve had my family play at Wembley before and they’ll be giving advice to me later this week and hopefully it’ll help me.”

Looking back on your first season, how have you found it?

“It’s been amazing so far this season. Obviously, we’ve still got one game left to go, but I’m just really grateful for the boss and his coaching staff, they’ve trusted me this season, put me in different positions and given me the chance to learn different things about the game. I’m very grateful to the boss.

“It’s really nice to be noticed by the fans and people [on winning the Championship Young Player of the Year], it means a lot to me.

“It's been a good year and hopefully we can top it off on the weekend.

“They [the fans] will be the 12th man on Sunday and hopefully they can help get us over the line. On Thursday [the Norwich game] that was the best I’ve seen the atmosphere since I’ve been watching Leeds. Amazing, definitely amazing.”
