Leeds United return to Elland Road as the Whites prepare to take on Swansea City in the Sky Bet Championship.

Ahead of the Wednesday night fixture, we take a look back through the years and pick out a starting XI from the players who have worn the shirts of both clubs.

 GK: David Stewart

The Scotsman made the move to Yorkshire in 1973 after making over 250 appearances for Ayr United. Don Revie signed the shot-stopper for £30,000 and he went on to play 74 times for the club until he left the club for West Brom. In 1980, he joined Swansea City and he was ever-present in their league campaign as he went on to achieve promotion to the First Division with the Swans. Stewart left the club in 1981 with 57 appearances to his name.

DEF: Federico Bessone
Ahead of the 2008/09 season, Bessone made the move to Swansea from Espanyol B and played for two seasons. The full-back played 40 times for the Welsh club before Leeds United signed him in June 2010. However, gamete was limited for Bessone as he played just six times before being sent on loan to Charlton in January of that season. He then briefly returned to Swansea in August 2011 where he made one additional appearance for the Swans.

DEF: Joe Rodon

The current Spurs loanee began his career with Swansea City as he rose through the ranks of the youth academy. He played 54 times for his boyhood club between 2018 and 2020 before Tottenham secured his signature. After a loan spell with Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais last season, the Welshman joined LUFC on loan in the summer of 2023 and has so far played 14 times for the Whites. 

DEF: Alan Tate
The defender spent two loan periods at Swansea City in the early 2000s from Manchester United and eventually joined the Welsh side on a permanent basis in 2004. Tate was a part of Swansea’s journey from League Two all the way up into the Premier League until his departure at the end of the 2012/13 season.  During his final campaign with the Swans, he was sent on loan to Leeds where he played 11 games in defence for the Whites.

MID: Matt Grimes
During his early years with Swansea, Grimes signed for Leeds United on loan in July 2016 and played under his former manager Garry Monk. However, he struggled to find regular minutes on the pitch and returned to south Wales after making 13 appearances for LUFC. Since returning, Grimes has found himself to be a regular for the Swans and has so far racked up 270 appearances and 12 goals for the club.

MID: Terry Yorath

The Wales international came through the ranks at Leeds United and established himself as a first team regular in during the 1972/73 season. He was a part of the 73/74 First Division title winning season and was also the first Welshman to play in a European Cup final when Leeds reached the 1973 UEFA European Cup final. Yorath played 198 times for LUFC and scored 12 goals. In 1986, he became manager of Swansea City and played one game for the club which proved to be his final appearance in football. 

MID: Andy Robinson

Robinson began his career with Swansea in 2003 and featured on 226 occasions for the club, scoring 54 goals in the process. He directly joined Leeds from the Swans in 2008 and remained with the Whites until 2010. Robinson played 50 times and netted seven goals before he left the club for Tranmere Rovers. 

MID: Pablo Hernandez

Hernandez made the move to Wales from Spanish club Valencia in 2012 where he went on to spend two seasons playing in the Premier League with Swansea City. The attacking midfielder netted five goals in 71 games before leaving the club in 2014. After spells in Qatar, the UAE and Spain, he joined LUFC on loan from Al-Arabi in August 2016. His move has eventually made permanent and the Spaniard went on to become an icon at the Whites, achieving promotion back to the Premier League in 2020 and racking up 175 appearances with 36 goals to his name.

ATT: Daniel James

The current LUFC winger began his senior career with Swansea City and he scored six goals in 39 games for the club before Manchester United snapped up the Welsh forward ahead of the 2019/20 campaign. Leeds United secured James’ signature in August 2021 and so far, he has eight goals in 56 appearances for the Whites.

ATT: Joel Piroe
After beginning his footballing journey in the Netherlands, Piroe was signed by Swansea in the summer of 2021. The striker played two full seasons with the Swans and netted 46 goals in 96 appearances in all competitions. Leeds United came in for the Dutchman in August 2023 and so far Piroe has has a bright start to life at Leeds with six goals in 14 games for the Whites.

ATT: Alan Curtis

The Swansea City honorary president had three spells with Swansea during his playing career. He made his senior debut in 1972 and left the Swans for LUFC in 1979 where he played one full season before returning to south Wales. Overall, he found the back of the net six times in 35 games for the Whites and six of those appearances came during the 1980/81 campaign before he returned to Swansea the same season. Curtis achieved promotion to the First Division during his additional three and a half seasons with the Swans before leaving for Southampton in November 1983. Towards the end of his career, he returned to Swansea for a third and final time following spells with the Saints, Stoke and Cardiff City. He played a final full season in the Third Division where he played 31 times and scored three goals. Overall, he scored 123 goals in 438 appearances for Swansea City.
