Played For Both: Leicester City & Leeds United

We take a look through the players who have featured for both sides

Leeds United are back on the road again as we take on Leicester City on Friday evening at the King Power Stadium.

Ahead of the away fixture, we take a look back through the years and pick out a starting XI of players who have worn the shirts of both clubs.


Leicester pfb


GK: Kasper Schmeichel

The shot-stopper was signed by Leeds United from Notts County ahead of the 2010/11 season. He played the majority of games during his only season with he Whites, making 40 appearances in all competitions. In the summer of 2011, Leicester secured his signature and went on to become an icon at the club. He won promotion to the Premier League in 2014, the Premier League title in 2016 and played 476 times for the club over the course of 11 seasons. 


DEF: Willie Bell
The former Scotland international made the move from Queen’s Park to Leeds in 1960 and was once called ‘one of the bravest men’ by Norman Hunter. Bell played 260 games for the Whites between 1960 and 1967 and left for Leicester City where he played 49 times for the Foxes in two seasons.


DEF: Mike Whitlow

Whitlow was signed from Witton Albion in 1988 and remained with the club until 1992. Despite making enough appearances to earn a medal as part of the 1991/92 First Division title winning team, he had left the club for Leicester City before Leeds were confirmed as champions. However he received his medal 10 years later. He stayed with Leicester City for a number of years and scored eight goals in 147 appearances for the Foxes.


DEF: Matt Heath
Born in Leicester, Heath came through the Foxes’ academy and played in both the Premier League and Championship with the club. Overall, he featured 60 times and scored six goals between 2001 and 2005. In November 2006, he joined Leeds United on loan Coventry City. His move was later made permanent and departed Yorkshire in 2008. He played 59 games for the Whites and scored four goals.


DEF: Patrick Kisnorbo
The Australian made the move to Leicester in 2005 from Hearts and played 140 games in all competitions for the Foxes over the course of four seasons. Leeds United secured his signature in the summer of 2009 and he went on to become a part of the squad that gained promotion back to the Championship in 2010. In total, he played 58 times and scored once for the club.


MID: David Rennie

Throughout his career, Rennie played in both defence and midfield. He began his career with Leicester City and played 21 times for the Foxes between 1982 and 1986. He made the move to Yorkshire when Leeds snapped up the promising young player directly from Leicester.  He went on to feature 119 times for the Whites and net seven goals before leaving for Bristol City in 1989.


MID: Gary McAllister
In 1985, McAllister signed for Leicester and played there for five seasons. During that time, he found the back of the net 52 times and played 225 games before signing for Leeds in 1990. He became part of the LUFC side that won the 1991/92 First Division and featured on 295 occasions whilst scoring 45 goals for the Whites.


MID: Matt Jones
Born in Llanelli in Wales, Jones joined the Leeds United academy at the age of 14 and rose through the ranks to feature for the first team on 33 occasions. In 2000, he was signed by Leicester and featured 35 times over three seasons before injuries forced the Welshman to retire from professional football at the age of 23.


ATT: Max Gradel

The winger began his professional career with the Foxes and played for them between 2006 and 2010, making 33 appearances and scoring two goals for the club. Leeds United signed the Ivory Coast forward on loan from Leicester and his deal was eventually made permanent. He was part of the LUFC side that achieved promotion to the Championship in 2010 and he netted 25 goals in 84 games before departing in 2011 for Saint-Étienne.


ATT: Jermaine Beckford

LUFC icon Jermaine Beckford signed for Leeds in 2006 from Wealdstone. He went on to become part of the leading line that helped the Whites achieve promotion back to the Championship in 2010. Beckford scored 85 goals in 152 games for Leeds United before moving to Premier League side Everton at the end of the 09/10 campaign. The striker later signed for Leicester in 2011 and remained with the club until 2013. He scored 15 goals in his debut season before being loaned to Huddersfield Town the following year. Overall, he played 49 times for the Foxes.


ATT: Allan Clarke

Clarke played for Leicester City during the 1968/69 campaign and netted 16 goals in 46 games for the Foxes before he was snapped up by Don Revie for Leeds United in the summer of 1969. Clarke won the First Division, FA Cup, Charity Shield and the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup during his nine seasons with the club. He found the back of the net on 151 occasions and played 366 times for the Whites. The striker also made all 19 of his England appearances during his time with the club.
