Played For Both: Norwich City & Leeds United

We take a look through the players who have featured for both sides

Leeds United travel to Norfolk on Saturday as the Whites return to league action following the international break.

Ahead of the Championship fixture, we have a look back through the years at LUFC and pick out a selection of players who have worn the shirt for both clubs.

GK: Rob Green

Former England goalkeeper Rob Green began his footballing journey with Norwich City by rising through the ranks in their academy. He made his first team debut in 1999 and went on to feature a total of 241 times for the club until he joined West Ham in 2006. Fast-forward 10 years and Green signed for Leeds United ahead of the 2016/17 campaign. He featured in every league game that season and once in the League Cup. The shot-stopper ended his Leeds career with a total of 48 appearances and left the Whites in 2018. 


DEF: Sam Byram
The current LUFC defender made his debut for the club back in August 2012 after coming through the Whites’ youth system. He made 151 appearances before being snapped up by West Ham during the 2015/16 season. He then spent 2019 to 2023 with Norwich City where he scored one goal and played 54 times before making a return to Leeds United in the summer of 2023.


DEF: Danny Mills

Norwich-born Mills also began his career with the Canaries and played in the second tier with the club between 1995 and 1998. He scored once in 73 appearances and was later snapped up by Leeds from Charlton Athletic following the conclusion of the 1998/99 season. Mills was part of the Leeds side that reached the Champions League semi-final in the 2000/01 season. Overall, he played 141 games, scored four goals and departed the club in 2004.


DEF: Jon Newsome

Part of the LUFC 1991/92 First Division title winning side, Newsome joined the Whites in the 1991 and went on to play 88 games for the club before his departure three years later for Norwich City. The Canaries paid £1,000,000 for his services and he remained with the club until 1996 when he made a return to his hometown club, Sheffield Wednesday. Newsome played 67 times for Norwich and scored seven goals.


DEF: Adam Drury
Drury played in the third, second and top tier of English football with Norwich City from 2001 to 2012. Over the course of an 11 year period with the Canaries, Drury featured 361 times in all competitions and scored four goals for the club. Leeds United secured his signature in the summer of 2012 but only played 18 times for the Whites before being released in May 2014.


MID: Jonny Howson
Another Leeds United academy graduate on the list as Howson takes this spot in midfield. He made his debut in 2006 and remained with his hometown club until 2012. Howson scored 27 goals in 225 games for Leeds and was part of the 2009/10 League One promotion winning squad. Norwich City signed the midfielder in January 2012 and spent the next five and a half seasons with the Canaries - playing in both the Premier League and Championship with the club. Overall, he made 188 appearances and netted 24 times for the Norfolk side.


MID: Adam Forshaw

In January 2018, Forshaw made the switch from Middlesbrough to Leeds United where he would later go on to be part of the 2019/20 title winning side and play 90 games for the club. Following his release from LUFC in the summer of 2023, Forshaw made the move to Norwich City where, so far, he has played six games for the Canaries.


MID: Andrew Hughes
Hughes spent two seasons with Norwich City where he played 79 times for the Canaries before his departure in 2007. He directly joined Leeds United from Norwich and was also part of the side that gained promotion back to the Championship in 2010. Hughes scored one goal for the club and played 139 games before leaving for Scunthorpe United in January 2011.


MID: Bradley Johnson
Between January 2008 and 2011, Johnson played 140 games and scored 16 goals for LUFC. He also achieved promotion from League One in 2010 with the Whites and made the move to Norwich ahead of the 2011/12 Premier League season. 154 appearances and 21 goals for the Canaries later, the midfielder left the club in 2015. 


ATT: Robert Snodgrass

Between 2008 and 2012, Robert Snodgrass scored 41 goals in 193 games for Leeds United in all competitions. He was also part of the LUFC squad that won promotion back to the Championship in 2010. He later earned a Premier League move to Norwich City in 2012 where he played 74 games and scored 14 goals in two seasons for the Canaries.  


ATT: Luciano Becchio

Leeds United icon Luciano Becchio was snapped up by LUFC in 2008 from Mérida UD and remained with the Whites for the next four and a half seasons. He achieved promotion to the Championship in his second season with the club and went on to score 86 goals in 221 games. Norwich City came calling for his signature in January 2013, however, he couldn’t find the back of the net in 16 games for the club before departing for  Club Atlético Belgrano in 2015.
