Success for Rothwell Wildcats Centre

Foundation soccer camps for young girls continues to develop.

The Leeds United Foundation Wildcats programme has gone from strength to strength since its launch, with the charity approved to deliver over 60 football centres for girls throughout West Yorkshire.

One of the centres that is continuing to develop and grow is the centre located at Rothwell Town JFC, with over 60 girls now attending weekly football sessions with coaches from the club’s official charity.

Leeds United Foundation deliver their sessions every Saturday morning for youngsters aged from 5 to 11 and many of the girls have been inspired to now train through the week as well due to the love they have developed for the game.

Since the launch of the camp, that is delivered in partnership with the grassroots club at Rothwell, four female football teams have now been built - including Under-7s, Under-8s and Under-11s teams - with each of them now taking part in competitive fixtures and leagues.

The initiative was launched during the 2016/17 season with the club’s official charity having only two centres in Leeds to begin with. The programme aims to target girls between the ages of 5 to 11 and encourage them to engage more with football in a fun and friendly environment. The sessions also allow the girls to meet new friends, stay active and develop fundamental skills which may help them eventually transition into a grassroots football team or into the RTC programme also delivered by Leeds United Foundation.
