UNITED HOLD FESTIVE SENIOR LUNCH

UNITED HOLD FESTIVE SENIOR LUNCH

Club host event for older people in the local community.

Elland Road played host to a large group of seniors in the local community on Friday afternoon for a special Christmas lunch.

The event, which was held for the first time last year, is part of an ongoing relationship between the club and Holbeck Elderly Aid; a South Leeds based charity that provides a variety of services and activities to support older people in the community.

With around 90 older people in attendance they were joined by MP Hilary Benn, other local councillors including Cllr Angela Gabriel and Cllr Andrew Scopes and Leeds United Head of Communications James Mooney for the festive occasion.

Elissa Newman, Chief Officer at Holbeck Elderly Aid, spoke about the event and said: "We are absolutely delighted to have the support of Leeds United. It is a great privilege to facilitate 90 local people to have a delicious lunch, in such a fantastic setting at this time of year. It has become a highlight on our social calendar, our clients love coming together with friends old and new, and sharing in the festive spirit.

“Leeds United have been incredibly generous in hosting this Christmas meal, for the second year running, and speaks to their commitment to investing in the local community. The club is part of the fabric of life here in Holbeck and many personal histories are interwoven with that of the club’s. Today has also been an opportunity to reminisce, share stories and celebrate local culture."

Angus Kinnear, CEO of Leeds United Football Club, added: “It was a fantastic event last year and so we were more than happy to host the event and supply a Christmas lunch once again this year for some great people in our local community as part of the club’s Christmas festivities.

“Some of these older people literally live on the doorstep of our stadium and to be able to give something back to them, especially at this time of year is really special to the club.”

A big thank you to everyone that took part in the raffle that was held during the lunch, with all of the proceeds going to the club’s official charity, the Leeds United Foundation.
