U23s preview: Tottenham Hotspur vs Leeds United

U23s preview: Tottenham Hotspur vs Leeds United

Premier League 2 action.

Mark Jackson’s Under-23s are travelling to face Tottenham Hotspur on Monday evening (7pm), as they return to Premier League 2 Division One action. The game will played in North London, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Whites have been without a match since a comfortable three goal success over Liverpool at Elland Road, which took place early in February, seeing goals scored by Jack Jenkins, Crysencio Summerville and Max Dean.

Postponements in both the Premier League Cup and PL2 followed after that victory, due to the adverse weather conditions across the country. The same situation happened to Spurs and they also haven’t played since early February, when they were heavily defeated at home to Crystal Palace.

Both teams are aiming to get three points added to their tally on Monday evening, as they continue their battles at opposite ends of the table. Jackson’s side are fighting to move away from the bottom two, with the gap to 13th placed Chelsea being just two points as it stands.

Tottenham are hoping to finish as high as possible in the standings. Currently in 5th place, the home side have a strong goal difference which could be vital, as they aim to overtake both Manchester United, Arsenal and even West Ham United in 2nd place.

When the two sides met at Thorp Arch in August, Spurs showed a clinical touch to take the three points that day. An entertaining six-goal encounter saw Dilan Markanday net a hat-trick, but he won’t be doing the same again on Monday, having joined Blackburn Rovers in the January window.

Aiming to catch his scoring record of their departed teammate is Alfie Devine and Nile John. Both players have scored seven up to now, which is also matched by Leeds pairing Sam Greenwood and Joe Gelhardt.
