Leeds United picked up a second win of the season, as Morten Spencer’s deflected strike gave Scott Gardner’s side a 1-0 victory away at Burnley.

The hosts had a great chance to take the lead inside two minutes.  Following a free-kick, Leeds failed to clear and Benn Ward was denied by Harry Christy, before firing the rebound from the save over the crossbar.

Leeds’ first chance came in the fourth minute, Ben Andreucci put in a cross from the right and only a superb stop from Harry Moss denied Luca Thomas’ header.

Another opportunity came for the Whites in the opening period when Archie Gray sent Keenan Carole forwards, but he saw his strike deflect narrowly wide.

Once more Burnley had Moss to thank for keeping the scores level, this time he denied Andreucci’s strike after the Leeds forward broke into the Clarets box.

The home side created a good opportunity when Will Couch went through after a neat pass from Ryan Tioffo and he dinked the ball over Christy, but saw his attempt go just wide.

Keelan Williams then tried his luck from range for the home side and he saw his effort go just inches over the crossbar.

Leeds took the lead in the 27th minute, with Spencer letting fly from25 yards, with his low effort deflecting and deceiving Moss, to find the back of the net.

Burnley almost hit back eight minutes later, Keelan Williams’ cross was met by Sean Etaluku on the volley, but he couldn’t keep it down.

Following some good link up play with Carole and Scott Godden, the latter crossed and found Thomas, but once more he saw a header denied by Moss.

Half time: Burnley 0-1 Leeds United

Leeds had a great opportunity to increase the lead straight after the break, Joe Snowdon’s cross found Andreucci well placed in the Burnley box, but he couldn’t guide his effort on target.

Joe Bauress fired an effort from distance as the home side looked to get back into the game, but he couldn’t get the better of Christy in the Leeds goal, before Keelan Williams forced the Whites stopper into action once again soon after with a header on goal.

Leeds substitute Lui Bradbury almost had an immediate impact, he reached the byline before cutting the ball back to Thomas, who saw his strike come back off the post.

Bradbury again threatened, striking a fierce effort from the edge of the box, which brought out the best of Moss in the Burnley goal.

Godden put another teasing cross in from the left flank which ended up going right the way through to Bradbury at the back post, but he couldn’t find the target with his finish.

Leeds continued to press for a second goal in the closing stages and nearly found it through Thomas’ deflected strike from the edge of the box, but Moss managed to keep it out.

Jacson Coppack’s header which went wide of the Leeds goal was the closest the Clarets came to scoring in the closing stages, whilst Leeds nearly made sure of the victory in stoppage time, but Carole who worked room to shoot in the Burnley box, was denied by another fine stop from Moss.
