Ryan Edmondson’s second half header and a penalty save from goalkeeper Kamil Miazek was enough to see Leeds United’s Under-23s to victory against Ipswich Town.

Leeds’ first chance came inside 10 minutes, captain for the day Jack Clarke found Alfie McCalmont and he saw his strike deflect wide.

Four minutes later, Armondo Dobra went close for the home side, with his effort going just wide of the post.

Clarke then forced Ipswich goalkeeper Harry Wright into action, following a corner, the ball came back out to the winger, he weaved his way into the box, but the Ipswich stopper made a good save to keep the scores level.

Pascal Struijk saw a long range attempt denied by Wright, before Kun Temenuzhkov was played into the Ipswich box and had a great chance to give Leeds the lead, but another fine stop saw him denied.

On the stroke of half time Leeds had another opportunity, first Wright denied Clarke following a good run from the left flank, before also preventing Edmondson from slotting home the rebound with another super stop.

Half time: Ipswich Town 0-0 Leeds United

After the break, two Leeds substitutes Niall Huggins and Robbie Gotts combined, with the latter firing just over the crossbar.

Leeds took the lead 10 minutes into the second period, Temenuzhkov’s cross was met by the head of Edmondson and this time Wright could do nothing to prevent the Leeds striker.

Ipswich tried to respond through Dobra, he drove forwards before striking, but was unable to find the target with his finish.

Leeds could have made it two in the 64th minute, Clarke found Edmondson in the box, with the impressive Wright tipping his strike onto the crossbar, before the home side scrambled clear.

Seven minutes later, Ipswich were awarded a penalty as Kai Brown was felled in the Leeds box.  Brown stepped up to take the spot kick, but Leeds stopper Miazek guessed the right way to deny him.

Miazek was again called into action in the closing stages, making a great save to deny Brown for a second time.

Theo Hudson then found Edmondson and he drove towards goal, before firing just wide of the post.

Ipswich piled the pressure on Leeds in the closing stages, but the Whites held on to make it two wins from two in the Professional Development League.
