Leeds United Women ran out 2-1 winners away at Durham Cestria earlier this afternoon, fighting back from a goal down to claim all three points.
Drew Greene responded to Faye Dale’s opener in the first half to level the affair, and Alice Hughes finished off a nice move to secure the victory ten minutes before the final whistle.
After the game, Whites boss Simon Wood said: “It feels amazing having a group of players that are willing to work that hard for 90 minutes.
“We spoke to the squad before coming out today and we’ve had players come on and make impacts on games, so we knew today those players off the bench would impact this game as well.
“I think there’s a real calmness around us,” Simon added on going a goal down. “You see that when once the goal goes in, we don’t panic, we don’t suddenly try and change the way we’ve been playing – we keep doing the things we do.
“We’ve had late winners already this season. We’ve scored late goals in games, and I think it’s showing the players levels of fitness as well.”
On next week’s cup clash against West Bromwich Albion Women: “We’ll go play a Tier 3 team that are doing very well this season. The thing is when you’re going weekend to weekend, we had a Wednesday game, you’ve got to just concentrate on the next one.
“What we’ll definitely do, which you’ve seen in every performance this season, is we’ll go from the first minute to the last minute representing the club, so hopefully we get a positive result, and if not, we’ll make sure it’s a performance we can be proud of.”
