Leeds United Women were 2-1 winners over Durham Cestria earlier this afternoon, coming from behind to secure the three points ten minutes from full time in a tightly contested affair.
Drew Greene prodded in on the line the level the scores going into the break, and Alice Hughes scored the winner ten minutes from time to propel the Whites up the table and within two points of the league leaders.
After the hard-fought victory, Leeds Captain Shauna Legge said: “It was a bit of a relief. We said at the end there that we probably made it hard work for ourselves but whether we win ugly or pretty, three points is all that we want.
“It was massive to bounce back so quick like that. We knew that we should relax and grow into the game, it was good to do that, and it was good to settle and get a goal back pretty quickly.
“A win is a win and we’re just happy with the three points. We’re just showing now that we can grind results out, whether it’s ugly or not it doesn’t matter, it’s points on the board so we’re happy with that."
On West Bromwich Albion Women away in the cup next weekend: “It’s a tough, tough test against opposition in the league above us.
“We are the underdogs there, so we will go and have a go at them and see, play our game and see what happens.”
