Ava Spencer-Smith Cover Rotherham (H) Nov 1 Interview

Ava Spencer-Smith's goal helped Leeds United Women book a place in the FA Cup Second Round with a 2-0 victory over Rotherham United Women.

The forward converted from Alayna Millard's low cross in the first half following a neat move before captain Shauna Legge bundled home to guarantee the win.

Speaking after the game, Spencer-Smith said: "The girls did really well. We worked together and were very resilient.

“Both goals were a very good team effort, so I'm very pleased and quite proud to be into the next round."

Despite creating several opportunities to extend their advantage earlier in the first half, the Whites had to remain patient against a stubborn Rotherham side before eventually finding their second.

“We worked really well together. We wanted to get that extra goal, obviously, so we were two-nil up,” the forward added. "Again, it was a really good team effort, working together.

“We're very pleased we've passed the First Round,” Spencer-Smith continued, speaking on the Second Round clash against Norton & Stockton Ancients to come.

“In the second stage of the cup we'll be very resilient again, working together from the beginning. Hopefully we'll score some more goals and move on to the next one.

“Then, in the league, we'll just focus on our next match this weekend and hopefully we'll win that too.”
