BRENTFORD: BOTAKA VS FORMER BOSS?

Winger eager to make United debut...

Jordan Botaka is hopeful of making his United debut this weekend against his former boss Marinus Dijkhuizen, who brings his Brentford side to Elland Road on Saturday (3pm).

Dijkhuizen, who took charge of the Bees earlier this summer, managed Botaka for a year and a half during his time with Dutch club Excelsior.

The pair won top-flight promotion in 2014 before spending last season together in the Eredivisie, with Botaka making 33 appearances along the way.

And the 22-year-old winger, who moved to Elland Road on deadline day, is now aiming for a first United appearance against his old coach.

“I hope I can make my debut this weekend, of course,” he said.

“The coach at Brentford was also my trainer in Holland last season so it will be funny to see him again. I would like to make my debut against him.

“I think the trainer here (Uwe Rosler) has given me a lot of confidence.

“If he tells me today to play tomorrow, I’ll just do it. I feel good so we will see what happens.”

Asked which position he feels best suited to, Botaka said: “I’m a winger on the right side, I can also play on the left – it’s wherever the coach wants me to play but last year I played more on the right side than the left.”

Botaka, renowned for his quick-feet and trickery, has captured the imagination of many United supporters who have seen clips of his skills online. But the DR Congo international is well aware of the Championship's demands and plans to adapt his game accordingly.

“You have to be the player you are everywhere you go, but you have to know the difference between each competition," he said.

“Some competitions have more things and I know the Championship does.

“I have to play quicker, I have to be stronger, I have to be faster – that’s what I’m going to do now.

“But I will not stop being me, that’s the main thing.

“I have to give assists, to score goals, to make sure we win the game and to please the supporters.

“That’s what I’m working on and that’s what I want to do for Leeds."
