Youngsters clock up Thorp Arch victory...
The Under-18s proved too strong for Ipswich at Thorp Arch at the weekend.
Frank Mulhern and Eoghan Stokes got the decisive goals as Richard Naylor’s side picked up a well deserved 2-1 victory.
Stokes had already hit the post by the time Mulhern converted a Luke Booker cross after a great advancing run by the full-back.
Stokes was a constant threat as United tested the visiting goalkeeper, and he was rewarded for his efforts when he headed home an Adam Berry corner to double the advantage.
Ipswich pulled a goal back with 20 minutes remaining, but United held firm for a deserved victory.
“We played very well,” said Under-18s coach Richard Naylor. “We created chances, we tested their goalkeeper and we were deserved winners. I was pleased to see Eoghan Stokes finish with a goal because it was just reward for a good all-round display.”
United: Dixon, Booker, Coker, Bennett, Tiesse, Roper, Berry, Denton, Amiri (Cruz), Mulhern (Lyman), Stokes.
