REDFEARN WELCOMES AIDY RETURN

REDFEARN WELCOMES AIDY RETURN

Team news ahead of Saturday's Hillsborough trip...

Neil Redfearn says Aidy White's return from injury will give an "extra dimension" to his squad and that he could be involved for Saturday’s visit to Sheffield Wednesday.

White, who has been sidelined since last July’s pre-season friendly at Chesterfield, played 45 minutes for the Under-21s on Monday as he continues to step up his comeback from a lengthy ankle injury.

The 23-year-old has already outlined his hopes to feature again before the end of the season and Redfearn says having White back in action would provide a boost.

"There’s room for good players. If they’re fit and available, then you have to consider all of your options," said the head coach.

"Someone like Aidy give us an extra dimension. It’s a Yorkshire derby and it’s important we get the right mix out there.

"They’re aware of the occasion and what it means. We’ll go and give our best on the day."

Redfearn was impressed by White’s contribution for the Under-21s in Monday’s 4-1 hammering of Huddersfield and knows the versatile left-footer would provide a different option to what he has worked with so far this season.

"It’s been frustrating for Aidy but he’s done really well and has stuck at it," he said.

"He’s had his rehab minutes, he’s done really well. He played on Monday for the Under-21s and looked really sharp, I have to say. He did 45 minutes.

"It may be a bit soon to start him, but maybe off the bench.

"He’s happy with the injury and he’s had no comebacks or relapses. We can think about Aidy White.

"If you look at Aidy White’s strengths, his assets are maybe something we haven’t got.

"He’s got blistering pace, he goes past people. He can play left-back or on the left-wing.

"A fit Aidy White would be a real asset to this side. He’s got Championship experience, he’s played at this level.

"He’s been on the scene for a while now so it would be nice to get Aidy back."

Elsewhere on the injury front, Redfearn says certain players have returned to training this week after missing last Saturday’s defeat at Charlton.

"We’ve got one or two boys who are still carrying things and there are one or two who have come back out and trained," he explained.

"Souleymane Doukara came back out and trained on Tuesday, Dario Del Fabro trained on Tuesday.

"Marco Silvestri is doing light training. We’ve also got some lads who are going to be more long term.

"We’ve put ourselves back together and the lads look good."
