YOUNGSTERS BUZZING FOR ER CHANCE

Under-18’s captain can’t wait for Friday’s Youth Cup tie…

Under-18’s captain Kalvin Phillips says there is a real buzz amongst the squad for Friday night’s FA Youth Cup tie against Reading (7pm).

The tie will take place at Elland Road under the floodlights and the young midfielder can’t wait to lead his team-mates out onto the pitch.

“The lads are buzzing for it,” said Kalvin. “Honestly we can’t wait to just get out there and show the gaffer and everyone what we are like and how the team can perform.

“Reading are a good side but we obviously think that we can do it so we are looking forward to it.

“With the game being at Elland Road it is different. It is everyone’s dream to play at Elland Road. There will be loads of fans there that we need to impress.

“The aim is to play our best and get as far as we can. Obviously if we do well in the cup the gaffer is more likely to look at the side and think that we are a good set of lads.”

The Cup is a welcome distraction following mixed results in the league this term, but the midfielder says that performances have been good and they have kept their heads up.

“The season is going well,” said the captain. “Some of the younger lads have played well and so have some of the second years.

“The results haven’t gone our way in all the games but we have kept our heads up. We are all buzzing for Friday.

“Some of the performances have been absolutely brilliant. But we have lost a couple of games that we shouldn’t have lost but that is what happens when you have young lads.”

Friday evening’s Youth Cup tie against Reading kicks off at 7pm and tickets for the game can be purchased from Entrance 4 in the West Stand. Tickets are priced at £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.
