WOOD REFLECTS ON ROTHERHAM DEFEAT

Striker keen to put things right this weekend...

Chris Wood admitted his disappointment following Saturday’s home defeat to Rotherham United, but the striker insists the result doesn’t meant the team have suddenly "turned back the wrong way", saying "it was just one of those performances".

Wood, along with strike partner Mirco Antenucci, came close to finding the net on a frustrating afternoon at Elland Road which could have seen a different outcome had one of Leeds’ several chances beaten Millers goalkeeper Lee Camp.

But Rotherham were able to convert one of their few sights of goal, Joe Newell guiding his 54th-minute header beyond Marco Silvestri to halt a run of back-to-back victories for Steve Evans’ side and send the three points back to South Yorkshire.

Wood said: “We would have liked to have carried on the run but I won’t say we’ve turned back the wrong way. It was just one of those performances.

“We created enough chances to win the game, but the bottom line is in both boxes we need to do better. That’s from me up top to anyone in the team - when we get a chance we have to score.

“We’ll be working on that to make sure we get it right.

“Everybody at the club is frustrated when we lose. The fans, in particular, were frustrated because it was a game we should have won.

“We had chances to make it an easier day for us but it just didn’t happen.

“It’s fine margins in both boxes. That’s where games are won and lost.

“You need to take opportunities and need to stop them from going in. We had more than enough opportunities to put this right.

“It wasn’t to be on Saturday but we’ll put it right on the training pitch this week and at QPR.”
