Leeds United's Under-23s ended pre-season with a hard fought 3-2 victory over Scarborough Athletic.

Leeds took the lead with the first chance of the game, Kun Temenuzhkov played a fine cross field pass to Jordan Stevens who controlled really well, before smashing the ball into the back of the net.

Scarborough went close in the 12th minute, with Kian Spence dragging as hot wide from 20 yards.

Four minutes later, Leeds nearly doubled the advantage, Niall Huggins put a lovely cross into the box, which was met by a Ryan Edmondson volley, but he couldn’t find the target.

Pascal Struijk then played Stevens in on goal for the Whites and he slotted home, only to see his effort ruled out for offside.

Scarborough then had goalkeeper Tom Taylor to thank for preventing a Leeds second, he made a superb save to deny Edmondson, after being played in by Theo Hudson.

Clarke Oduor tried his luck from 25 yards, but was unable to find the target as the Whites pushed to increase the advantage.

The Whites did go further ahead, five minutes before the break.  Oduor stole possession, allowing Edmondson to strike from the edge of the box and whilst he was denied by Taylor, the Scarborough goalkeeper could do nothing about the follow up from Kun Temenuzhkov.

Just before the break Scarborough got back into the game, Isaac Assenso played through T’Nique Fishley and he rounded Leeds’ Trialist goalkeeper before slotting home.

Half time: Scarborough 1-2 Leeds United

Scarborough drew level two minutes after the break.  The home side were awarded a free-kick inside the Leeds box after a pass back by Struijk and the Seadogs took full advantage with James Walshaw smashing home following a layoff by Kian Spence.

Leeds regained the lead nine minutes later, Stevens broke down the left flank and he then unselfishly laid the ball off to Temenuzhkov who made no mistake with a first time finish.

Shortly after the home side nearly levelled the scores once more, with Trialist making a superb save to deny Will Annan’s free-kick to keep Leeds in front.

Temenuzhkov then did well down the right, his cross was met by Edmondson, but he couldn’t make the contact he desired, resulting in a Taylor save.

Stevens nearly added a fourth when he did well when breaking forward, before firing a curling effort from 25 yards which went just over.

The Whites then saw out the closing stages of the match, to come away from Flamingo Land Stadium with victory.
