Ahead of Sunday's Sky Bet Championship opener between Leeds United and Bristol City at Ashton Gate, we look at five key points made by the Whites head coach.
On Leeds United...
“When you say Leeds United, you are talking about a big thing. When you are talking about Marching on Together it’s a sentence that is very clear, connecting everybody and this is something I feel. There are clubs better than Leeds United, but don’t have the feeling that unites everyone and the passion about the club.”
On improving efficiency from last season...
“That was a problem and we have to show we can resolve it.”
On having an adaptable squad...
“We have two players in Kalvin Phillips and Luke Ayling that can play in centre-back. Gaetano Berardi and Liam Cooper can also do this. Ben White can develop a lot during this season and at the same time if Ayling plays at centre back, you have Dallas and Shackleton at right back. If Phillips plays as a centre back, Adam Forshaw can play as a defensive midfielder without problems.”
On Kalvin Phillips...
Kalvin is an example for everyone. There has been a lot of speculation which is not good and sometimes. Kalvin is showing us that you can be a big player and a good player, whilst at the same time respecting values that are very difficult to find.”
On Jack Harrison...
“For me last season was a season for Jack Harrison to grow. This year Jack has to build on that experience. The last two months he has made a very good job. The expectation that creates has to be concrete during the matches.”
