Club representative to be awarded with international honour.

Tony Dorigo Man City 1991 Celebration

Leeds United legend and current club ambassador Tony Dorigo is set to be presented with his England Legacy Cap when Leeds United take to Wembley stadium this weekend, in the Emirates FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea.

In November 2019 to coincide with the Three Lions' 1,000th fixture, legacy numbers were introduced to celebrate every debutant for the men's senior side, utilising the unique and chronological list of all players to make an appearance dating back to 1872.

Dorigo made his England debut in 1989 against Yugoslavia and went on to make 15 appearances at left-back over four years representing the Three Lions. He received legacy number 1020 and was named in the 1990 World Cup squad.

Ahead of his two former sides taking to the pitch on Sunday, Dorigo will be presented with his Legacy Cap at exactly 2.26pm by FA CEO Mark Bullingham, just over half-an-hour before kick-off in the FA Cup semi-final.

The former full-back commented: "I was offered the opportunity to have my England Legacy Cap presented to me during the recent England vs. Japan match. However, I requested that it be presented at Elland Road instead.

"As fate would have it, the stars aligned – both Leeds United and Chelsea reached the FA Cup semi-final, the two clubs I represented while earning my 15 senior England caps. Now, it will happen at Wembley, the home of English football, and I’ll feel deeply honoured and privileged to receive it there.”

Everyone at Leeds United would like to congratulate Tony on this moment, and encourage fans to be in their seats to celebrate alongside him on Sunday.
