Josuha Guilavogui announces retirement from football

Guilavogui trophy lift

Everyone at Leeds United would like to send their best wishes to former player Josuha Guilavogui who has announced his retirement from professional football.

A hugely popular figure, the former France international joined the Whites in October 2024 and was a great presence within the club.

Making his debut in a 3-0 home victory over Plymouth Argyle, Guilavogui featured 18 times across all competitions under Daniel Farke last term, ending the season as a champion as Leeds lifted the second-tier trophy.

Josuha’s unwavering professionalism at Thorp Arch, infectious personality on a daily basis and heartfelt commitment to supporting the Leeds United Foundation’s important work in the community embodied everything the club stands for.

Having represented Saint-Étienne, Atlético Madrid, VfL Wolfsburg, Bordeaux, Mainz 05 and Leeds United, as well as earning seven caps for his native France during a stellar career, the 35-year-old retires with the best wishes of everyone at Elland Road.

The midfielder confirmed the news via his social media channels on Saturday afternoon, delivering a heartfelt message reflecting on his journey in the game.

“Dear football.

"Asking for a lot but giving so much more. "You gave me the chance to fulfill my father's dream, which later became my own, which animates the hearts and eyes of millions of children... and then you chose me. When I look back, I realize those unforgettable moments you gave me. I wanted to ask you so much more but I also know there could have been a lot less. "I take my share of gratitude and leave to others this infinite source of happiness you provide. You will surely forget me as you did others who were greater than me but in their image I will never forget you. "Time to write THE famous sentence. I'm hanging up the boots. The page turns but the book remains open.

"Thank you football."

Congratulations on a memorable career, Josuha!
