RIP Jimmy Mann (1952-2026)

Rest in peace.

Jimmy Mann RIP

Leeds United are saddened to learn that former player Jimmy Mann has passed away, aged 73. He played as a forward for the club during the Don Revie era, battling for the starting spot in attack with Allan Clarke.

Jimmy was born in Goole, East Yorkshire. After serving his apprenticeship at Elland Road he turned professional in 1969 when Leeds were reigning champions. He represented the club in the former First Division, making a single start in each of the 1971-72 and 1972-73 seasons, as well as playing in the League Cup and in the UEFA Cup. In total he made five senior appearances.

He left for Bristol City in 1974, spending eight years at the club during which he was converted to an attacking midfielder and helped them gain promotion to the top-flight.

When City were suffering financial troubles, Jimmy was one of the ‘Ashton Gate Eight’ who tore up their contracts to prevent the club going out of existence. Renowned for his ferocious shooting, he famously beat Peter Shilton from 40 yards to score against Nottingham Forest.

He later played under Norman Hunter at Barnsley and Billy Bremner for Doncaster Rovers, also having a brief spell with Scunthorpe United and ending his career with home-town team Goole Town.

Leeds United extend their deepest condolences to Jimmy’s family and friends.
