Leeds United Women fell to their first league defeat of the season this afternoon after being narrowly edged out by Cheadle Town.
Despite numerous chances for the Whites, it was the visitors who collected the points after Jessica Lightfoot’s second-half goal.
Speaking after the full-time whistle, boss Simon Wood gave his verdict.
“It’s always difficult when you lose a game of football.
“First half was a little bit scrappy, we tended to play it long but when we brought it down we troubled them more.
“Second half we started a bit slower, we fell into their trap and it led to their goal.
“When their goal went in our intensity levels rose but they defended resolutely, they don’t concede many goals and they showed why today.
Before the match, the Whites welcomed their sixth signing of the summer Abigail Lee, with Wood adding: “Abi’s working her way back in training, she’ll feature this season but it’s more around getting her back in and around the group – if we needed her she could have come on today.
“There will be Abi’s time when she comes in and shines for us this season.”
“It’s another game of football,” Simon then said on next week’s clash away at Norton & Stockton Ancients. “Football’s one of those sports where you’ll be feeling on top of the world when you win, and when you lose you have to regroup and go again.
“We’ve got a really good group of players here, we’ll go into training this week and work hard and have a positive performance next week.”
