Leeds United Women were forced to settle for a point away at Doncaster Rovers Belles on Wednesday evening in the FA WNL Division One North, after Drew Greene's opener was cancelled out by a quick equaliser in the second half.
Ahead of the tie Simon Wood named one change to the side following the Whites' last gasp win against Blackburn Rovers Women, bringing Kath Smith back into the side after her stoppage time penalty last time out.
Leeds United Women enjoyed the large share of possession throughout the first half but were unable to muster any clear-cut chances. Darcie Greene was the main creative outlet on the left in the opening stages, but Leeds couldn't threaten Doncaster ‘keeper Scarlette Slater-Rowley.
Eventually the visitors came close, as Ellie White’s dangerous free kick towards the back post was diverted wide by Alice Hughes, Leeds aiming to grab a goal before the break.
Leeds’ best chance of the half came through Ellie White who rounded the ‘keeper with ten minutes to go, before her effort was cleared off the line by a Doncaster defender, forcing another important interception as the rebound looked to be converted from an onrushing attacker.
The half ended goalless between the two sides, with Leeds on top of chances.
HALF TIME: Doncaster Rovers Belles 0-0 Leeds United Women
Soon after the play was resumed, Leeds went ahead! From a slick short corner routine, White delivered onto the head of Drew Greene, who found the back of the net with a glancing header!
However, shortly after, the hosts struck back through Abbie Coley’s freekick, levelling the tie as she found the top corner.
Searching for a goal, Leeds came forward again as Brittany Sanderson’s shot was blocked crucially, following Amy Woodruff’s hard work and low driven cross towards the middle of the goal from the left flank.
Leeds, chasing a winning goal, came forward through Woodruff again, firing narrowly over the bar as she latched on to a fizzed cross.
However, despite piling on the pressure, United were unable to find a winner and were forced to settle for a point, with Dwayne Chappell blowing the full time whistle shortly after.
Leeds are back in FA NWL Division One North midweek action next week as they face York City, following their West Riding FA County Cup clash against Harrogate Town Women on Saturday.
