On the return to FA WNL Division One North action, Leeds United Women came away from Durham Cestria with another three points, maintaining their position at the top of the table.
Two first-half goals were enough for the Whites to secure victory on a brisk afternoon in the north east, with manager Simon Wood pleased with his side's display.
“It's a really good performance against a really good, youthful, energetic team. We knew what Durham were going to bring in terms of the problems they could cause, especially across the whole pitch.
“We got off to the perfect start with an early goal but I think there were moments where we built really well. Getting the second goal gave us a platform going into the second half.
“It was a really professional performance by a good group of players that are starting to form that habit of what winning takes at this level.
“When we started seeing threats, we just cancelled them out. I think that's a real strength of ours at the minute.
“We needed a squad where, if a change was made or someone was unavailable, we were never getting weaker. That's a real strength of ours at the minute, the depth we have and the impact players are making.”
Next week will bring a different challenge, with the Whites turning their attention to an FA Cup Second Round clash against familiar opposition in Norton & Stockton Ancients.
Looking ahead to the fixture, the boss said: “We know the threats Norton bring. When we played them earlier in the season, it was a really good performance from us that won us the game, so we're going to have to be at those levels again.
“They'll play a different game to Durham, so we've got to have that adaptability and ability to change how we play. So far this season, I think we've shown that.”
