Leslie Bray tribute

Everyone at Leeds United was saddened to hear of the passing of supporter Leslie Bray, aged 99.

A life-long fan, Leslie had been attending home games at Elland Road for over 50 years and was the club’s oldest Season Ticket Holder.

A heartwarming clip of Leslie, who battled with dementia, last season went viral after the former RAF Navigator was seen singing along to Marching on Together at Elland Road, word for word.

The 99-year-old was then invited to Wembley with his son, Steve, to cheer on the team in the previous campaign’s Play-Off Final, with his love of Leeds United remaining a constant throughout his life.

“Les passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family,” said daughter-in-law Dawn. “Dad was a lifelong supporter and Season Ticket Holder at Leeds United and, despite his significant years, was still attending home games with his son.

“Videos of him singing Marching on Together loud and proud from the stands went viral because he never forgot the words when his advanced dementia robbed his memory of everything else.

“With all the media coverage he unexpectedly received last year, not just at Elland Road but also on his VIP trip to Wembley, he became a bit of a local celebrity and was loved by football fans who had never even met him. Not all LUFC legends are on the pitch!”

Ahead of the Sky Bet Championship match on Saturday afternoon against West Bromwich Albion we will pay tribute to Leslie, with his family in attendance at Elland Road. We encourage all supporters to take part in a round of applause at 12.20pm as we show an image of Leslie on the big screen, 10 minutes before kick-off.

Rest in peace, Leslie.
