Leeds United Women travel to Teesside this weekend, looking to continue their scintillating form as they face Norton & Stockton Ancients in the FA WNL Division One North.
A superb run of six consecutive victories has seen the Whites rocket up the table, with Simon Wood’s side currently level on points with leaders Cheadle Town.
United’s most recent triumph, a 3-0 demolition of York City Ladies in front of nearly 5,000 fans at Elland Road, was a great performance according to attacking midfielder Kath Smith, who admits spirits are high in amongst the squad.
“I think York played some good spells in parts, but ultimately we got hold of the game and controlled it,” she explained.
“We probably could have had a few more if we would have been a bit more clinical in the final third, I think!
“We had a flying start and then also finished on a goal at the end of the game, which was a really good solo goal from Darcie Greene. Running from the edge of her own box to score in the 90th minute is just a testament to the group.
“We have a lot of confidence in the team. We have settled into a team and are gelling, and we have a way of playing where we want to win. Now, we have got confidence behind us going into the Norton game.
“But saying that, obviously the results in the league have been all over the place, so we can’t take anything for granted.
“I think Norton are a really experienced team. They get in the way, they put up a fight and they make the game scrappy, so we know we are going to have to do that. They have had some good results this season.
“We have seen in every game that we have played this season that it is never going to be easy. Hopefully, we will go there and put on a really good performance.
“Sometimes a week off gives you that little bit of rest, because we all came back to training on Tuesday and we were flying.
“It was really high intensity and really competitive so hopefully we will take that into Sunday, and we will come back energised and hopefully get the three points.”
