Leeds United Academy full-back Freddie Lane has recently signed a first professional deal with the club, extending his stay for another year.
The versatile defender impressed for Scott Gardner’s Under-21s side last campaign, making 10 appearances in the Premier League 2 following his return to the team from injury.
Speaking after putting pen to paper on his new deal, Lane said: “I am really proud of where I have come from. It has been a long journey and there are a lot of people to thank. Leeds are a massive club and hopefully in the future I can make a real impact.
“It has made a massive difference,” he then commented on the support he has received from those around him. “I wouldn’t have been in this position without them.
“A special shoutout to my dad, he has been around for everything they have done for me and I have seen what he has sacrificed for me to get to this position. I wouldn’t be here without him.”
On his recent development, the full-back added: “I have definitely learned a lot about myself and about different positions on the pitch. I definitely have a better understanding of the game from playing in different positions.
“I think it was really important for me to have those few games at the end of the season to gain a bit of confidence going into this one.
“I missed a lot through injury so I feel like this season if I can really kick on and stay fit in that right-back position, it can be really exciting for me moving forward.
“I don’t put too much pressure on myself because when I am fit and playing consistently, I know what I can do.
“I would like to think if I can get a run of games in and go from there, my ability will show through, so I just need to concentrate on doing everything I can this season to make sure that is possible.”
