Catching up with Women's Player of the Season Drew Greene

Winger checks-in ahead of 2026/27 campaign.

Drew Greene post-season IV

Following the completion of the 2025/26 FA WNL Division One North campaign, Leeds United Women’s forward Drew Greene was named Women’s Player of the Season after a successful season in aiding the Whites to a decade-high third-place finish.

Finding the back of the net nine times in 27 appearances, the joint-most in the squad, Greene also swept up Players’ Player of the Season which was chosen by her teammates ahead of the annual awards night.

Leeds have now achieved consecutive progressive league finishes in the past three terms under manager Simon Wood, achieving sixth in the 2023/24 term, fourth the year after and third this time out – only six points behind the eventual champions.

After the dust settled on another physically and mentally demanding campaign, leedsunited.com caught up with our double award-winner Greene, who shared her grateful thoughts ahead of another chapter in West Yorkshire.

“I feel really proud to be named both Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year,” our number 7 began. “It is always a nice feeling being recognised but I think even more so from your teammates.

“We have such a great group of players, so to win both awards I am just really grateful and proud.

“It has been a really nice break to spend some time with family and friends but I have definitely missed playing. I’m looking forward to starting pre-season and to get going again,” Greene admitted.

Drew joined the club in the 2024 summer transfer window from Halifax Women, and has gone on to make 49 appearances, netting 15 in the process.

Further showing the squad’s mentality, she added: “This season was definitely better than last year, and there are a lot of positives to take from it, but we’re still not quite where we wanted to be. We have to take the positives into this coming season and be better to be able to achieve promotion.”

On an individual level, the winger had her most prolific season since the 2021/22 campaign for Brighouse Town Women, but focused more on being the best version of herself on the pitch upon reflection.

“I would say overall I am happy with this season but I will always look at where I can improve, not just for myself but for the team. I will continuously work hard and push myself for my teammates.

“My first season at Leeds I had a couple of injuries which meant I wasn’t able to perform consistently but this year I’ve been able to get back to being fit which has enabled me to perform at my best.”

The 2025/26 season had a lot of highs for the side, a back-to-back West Riding County Cup trophy-lift, excellent performances home and away to tier-above sides, memorable derby days, but one stood out for Drew…

“My favourite moment was Amy Woodruff scoring a late winner against Huddersfield at the Accu Stadium. I know how much the goal meant to Amy, so it was a very special moment.”

Leeds ran out 1-0 victors in the West Yorkshire Derby back in October, with Woodruff muscling off her marker and slotting into the bottom corner on 83 minutes to crown a resilient performance with three points. As Drew puts it: “I think a late winner is always nice but in a derby game it’s even better!”

Now with pre-season on the horizon ahead of another busy campaign, and as the Whites welcome her former team to the division in Halifax Women, Drew looks ahead to next term’s aspirations.

“I would definitely say, personally, another good season with more goals and assists to help the team, and to just try keep improving and being better. I think overall as a team the biggest aim is to fight for promotion and get Leeds United Women to where they deserve to be.”
