1972 FA Cup mural to be moved and repainted

Mural to be relocated.

1972 FA Cup Mural

The 1972 FA Cup mural commissioned by the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust in honour of Don Revie and his winning side, which stands proudly outside of the North East Corner at Elland Road is to be moved and repainted.

Due to the ongoing enabling works in preparation for the expansion of the West Stand at Elland Road, the wall of the building which the mural is currently painted on will become the club’s new security hub, with the need for outward kiosk windows to be installed, which was not envisaged when the mural was originally created. The current security hub at the back of the West Stand will be demolished.

Painted in 2022, 50 years on from the success, it features David Harvey, Paul Reaney, Paul Madeley, Billy Bremner, Jack Charlton, Norman Hunter, Terry Cooper, Peter Lorimer, Allan Clarke, Mick Jones, Johnny Giles, Eddie Gray, Mick Bates, Les Cocker and Don Revie.

Leeds artist Nicolas Dixon undertook the hand painted mural with his famous abstract design and used original individual player portraits designed by acclaimed sports artist Paul Trevillion.

Leeds United have now recommissioned Dixon to repaint the mural entirely, to ensure it retains the pride and prominence it deserves.

Work on the new security hub will begin from Wednesday 25th March.

The club would like to thank the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust for their cooperation and support.
