Brian McDermott is calling on his players to show their fighting spirit when Doncaster Rovers arrive at Elland Road on Saturday.

The South Yorkshire side are on the fringes of the relegation battle and are in need of results to ensure they are clear before the end of season scrap for survival.

United are on 47 points – 15 points clear of the relegation zone – but after going down 4-1 at Bournemouth in midweek, McDermott is calling on his players to stand tall.

“We have to battle and fight,” said the boss. “We have to have a fighting performance. The only thing that matters is winning the next game. We beat Millwall last time out here in a game we needed to win and we’re looking for another home win against Doncaster.

“We were well beaten in midweek at Bournemouth and we have to come back from that.”

Doncaster are managed by one-time Leeds striker Paul Dickov.

“I like Paul,” said the boss. “He’s a good guy, and it’ll be a real battle.

“It was a battle against Millwall. I thought they did well against us and would beat Birmingham in midweek, but they didn’t. Doncaster won last weekend and got beat in midweek. I’m expecting a real tough game.”
