Five stats
“From rags to riches under Reidy”. That was the way ITV's commentator Peter Drury described our 6-1 win at the Valley over Charlton on April 5 2003. Leeds headed into the game with only two league wins since the turn of the year and an embarrassing FA Cup exit at the hands of Sheffield United. However, on Grand National day, Leeds strode to victory thanks to a hat-trick from Mark Viduka (one penalty), two from Harry Kewell and another penalty from Ian Harte.

It took Viduka just 11 seconds to give the Whites the lead in our 2-1 win over the Addicks on March 17 2001. Shaun Bartlett equalised in the first half, before Alan Smith ensured the double over Charlton with the winner early in the second period

Despite not winning an away league game in season 1992/93, Leeds did manage a win away at the Valley in January 1993's FA Cup Third Round tie. Having drawn the first game 1-1 at Elland Road, Leeds took the lead through Gary Speed in the replay and a Peter Garland OG put the visitors 2-0 up. A penalty from Darren Pitcher gave the hosts some late hope, but a well worked free kick from Gary McAllister gave Leeds a trip to Highbury in round four.

Leeds produced their Sunday best as they hit top spot for the first time in season 2001/02 with a 2-0 win at the Valley. Leeds took the lead through Robbie Keane (his first strike of the season) and a second from outside the box from former Charlton player Danny Mills.

Leeds travelled to the Valley on May 1st 2010 knowing they could seal promotion back to the Championship if they won and Millwall lost at Tranmere. The Prenton park side kept their side of the bargain, winning 2-0 thanks to goals from former Leeds players Ian Thomas-Moore and Andy Robinson, with the latter on loan from the Whites. Sadly for Leeds, they couldn’t find a way through at the Valley and a late Richard Naylor own goal meant the fight for promotion would go down to the last day!
