FEET ON THE GROUND - REDFEARN

Head coach won't let United get carried away...

Neil Redfearn insists United will be keeping their feet firmly on the ground after beating league leaders Derby, but believes performances like that will cause problems to most teams.

Mirco Antenucci netted either side of half-time to secure an impressive 2-0 win at Elland Road and a first victory against the Rams for over nine years.

Redfearn’s side now face another stern test as they travel to second-placed Ipswich, and the head coach is hoping to build on Saturday’s win.

"It’s always good to go into another game off the back of a win because it gives you confidence," he said.

"We’ve just beat the top of the league but we’re not going to get carried away with it. We’ll have another week of training and go down the same lines.

"They’re enjoying their football and that’s a good thing.

"If we can get them enjoying their football and passing at that tempo like we have been, then we should be a match for most teams."

Despite a number of encouraging performances in recent weeks, United have endured a mixed run of results, but Redfearn believes the three points over Derby was no less than they deserved.

"It’s part of this progression. I think we’ve been playing well, I have to say," the head coach said.

"I thought we played well in the game against Charlton and didn’t get what we deserved. I thought  we played well against Blackpool and got what we deserved.

"We played well for a lot of the game at Blackburn and didn’t get what we deserved. On Saturday, we played well and got what we deserved.

"The more the performances are consistent, and the more we put these good performances in, the more chance we’ve got of getting results. I think that is the way forward."

Redfearn made just the one change from the previous weekend’s loss at Blackburn – Jason Pearce making way for Giuseppe Bellusci in defence – and his starting line-up had an average age of just 23.

"They’re getting better and better. They’re getting more and more experience," he said.

"They’re getting their feet under the table. I think it was important on Saturday that the bulk of the 11 stayed from Blackburn.

"That is why I kept them out there – they got this win together.

"We’re trying to build a team and it’s important that they get this feeling together.

"The subs are part and parcel of this and they came on and did their bit. We’re trying to put a team together and I was really pleased with what happened on Saturday."
