U21S SUFFER NARROW SWANS DEFEAT

Youngsters edged out at the Liberty Stadium...

Our Under-21s fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat away to Swansea City on Monday night.

After some early pressure from the hosts at the Liberty Stadium, Kalvin Phillips had the United youngsters’ first sight of goal after 20 minutes with a long-range free-kick which Swans goalkeeper Oliver Davies was able to hold.

Tyler Denton’s ball forward in search of Luke Parkin then almost caught Davies off-guard, but defender Keston Davies was able to sweep clear.

Davies kept out Denton and Parkin either side of the half-time whistle, as well as denying Brian Montenegro with a fine save from inside the area, before the Paraguayan loanee eventually broke the deadlock after an hour.

The forward capitalised on a defensive mix-up and was able to calmly lob the advancing Davies with a delicate chip to put the visitors ahead.

But the lead lasted just a matter of six minutes as Ross Killock inadvertently deflected Raheem Hanley’s low cross into his own net.

And the hosts went on to pull themselves in front in the closing stages through Stephen Fallon, converting James Loveridge’s low cross from close-range with just four minutes remaining on the clock.

United: Cairns, Coyle, Denton, Purver, Killock, Skelton, Dawson, Phillips, Montenegro, Parkin (Lyman 83), Mulhern (McDaid 83). Subs. Grimes, Coker.
