REPORT: MULHERN HITS BRACE IN U21S DRAW

United youngsters contest 2-2 draw at Brentford...

Frank Mulhern hit his second brace in as many matches as our Under-21s battled out a 2-2 draw away to Brentford on Tuesday afternoon.

Paul Hart’s starting line-up, which consisted entirely of U21s players, saw Mulhern rewarded with a place up front following last week’s double as a half-time substitute against Bristol City.

And the in-form striker took just 13 minutes to open the scoring at Jersey Road, netting a fine solo effort after picking the ball up inside his own half.

But the Bees levelled proceedings after the break, with defender Jan Holldack getting the decisive touch to force the ball home following a goalmouth scramble.

Holldack then popped up with a second 10 minutes from time to put the hosts into the lead, but Mulhern secured a point just six minutes later, bursting down the left before finishing beyond goalkeeper Jack Bonham.

The 18-year-old took his tally to five from five appearances this season for the U21s, who now take on QPR at Thorp Arch next Monday (1pm).

United team: Grimes, Coyle, Vann, Skelton, Denton, Purver, Parkin, Stokes, Walters (Wilks 75), Robbie McDaid (Lyman 65), Frank Mulhern. Subs not used: Peacock-Farrell, Pearce, Oduor.
