NO BETTER FEELING FOR ALEX

United midfielder on return to winning ways…

United midfielder Alex Mowatt spoke of his delight after Wednesday night’s 2-1 victory over Ipswich Town and said that there is no better feeling than winning.

Following a run of games that saw United win five from six in the league they have recorded back-to-back defeats – against Brighton and Watford – but Alex says the smiles are back.

“There is nothing better than that winning feeling so after a couple of defeats we just wanted to get that win,” said Mowatt.

“They know their way of playing and they are good at it.

“Down there we got heavily beaten but I thought that we were the better team on Wednesday night.

“Our target is to win as many games as possible and see where we end up. You never know in this league what can happen.

“You don’t want to just be safe in the division, you want to win as many games as you can.

“There is nothing better than the winning feeling so when you are winning you are smiling.”

It was Mowatt that gave United the lead on Wednesday evening only for Freddie Sears to level the contest just three minutes later.

But within another three minutes Billy Sharp struck to seal the three points with a great finish.

“I thought that everyone dug in well and I thought that we passed the ball well on Wednesday night,” added the midfielder. “We knew how they played and we dealt with it.

“We knew they would pump the ball up field and try to win the second balls and I felt that we dealt with that. We played our game well.

“In a central role I got a lot more of the ball and I enjoyed playing up front as well, I was playing just off Billy.

“I got a lot of space and got on the ball a lot and I enjoyed that.

“I just thought that we played well and we were countered them as well. When they equalised I thought the worst but Billy popped up with the winner and Marco made a great save.

“It was an all round good game.”

The young midfielder netted his seventh of the season on Wednesday evening with a stunning free-kick which he has compared to his winning strike against Millwall on February 14.

“It was in a similar position to my goal against Millwall,” he said. “I just thought I wanted to do the same again and luckily it went in.

“If you get it on target anything can happen.

“I was pretty gutted when Ipswich scored but we got one straight after that, it was an entertaining game.

“It was a good finish by Billy after good play by Cookie.”
