UWE: I COULDN\'T ASK FOR MORE

Head coach reflects on Saturday's 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday...

Uwe Rosler says he couldn’t have asked for any more from his players following Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road.

United fell behind to what Rosler described as a “wonder goal” on 37 minutes, Marco Matias beating the offside trap before firing in off the underside of the crossbar to give Wednesday the lead.

But a second-half goal from Chris Wood, forcing home Stuart Dallas’ low cross from close-range, ensured the spoils would be shared after a keenly-fought Yorkshire derby.

Rosler said: “They didn’t really attack us in any shape or form. Yes, we played too many straight balls in the beginning of the game.

“We weren’t patient enough but they didn’t have one chance in the whole game.

“The goal came as a wonder goal. I think we have to applaud their player – I wouldn’t have even called it a chance.

“I think it was a fantastic individual effort. Apart from that, I can’t recall any real efforts.

“My players knocked on the door and did everything I asked them to do.

“We made mistakes but we made up for it with endeavour, with character and everything that I could ask for.

“The players reacted in the right way, coming back from 1-0 down – what more can I ask?”

Rosler also praised in-form strike duo Wood and Mirco Antenucci, who again combined on several occasions as United pressed for a late winner.

“I think both of our strikers did well, forcing corners and free-kicks, and also forcing the momentum which got us the goal,” he said.

“Their goal was a big blow physcologically, especially what we were coming into the game on the back of.

“They were already tired, the legs didn’t always follow what the brain told them.

“At 1-0 down to a goal like that, you are thinking, ‘Where do we go from here?’ But we still came back.

“We still pushed them for the win and I put another striker on to win the game. I can’t ask for more than that.”
